In August 2021, Ronaldo joined Manchester United for the second time, but his development at Old Trafford was not satisfactory. After failing to leave the team this summer, various conflicts between the Portuguese and Manchester United broke out one after another. The former left the field without permission in the Red Devils game against Tottenham is one of the public performances.
United initially tolerated Ronaldo until the player used interviews to lash out at his club, manager and team-mates. In the conversation with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo claimed to have been “betrayed” and pointed the finger at Manchester United, the Glazer family, Ten Hag, Rangnick, Rooney and others, which seriously affected the club’s reputation. More than a week later, Manchester United finally issued an official statement announcing their parting ways with Ronaldo.
Ronaldo’s current contract has only 7 months left, with a total value of up to 16 million pounds. However, according to a number of Manchester United reporters who accompanied the team, Manchester United and Ronaldo terminated the contract without compensation, and the club did not pay the Portuguese any fees.
Ronaldo is currently preparing for Portugal’s first World Cup group match in Qatar. Following Manchester United’s official announcement, he also bid farewell to the club via social media: “After communicating with Manchester United, we jointly decided to terminate the contract early. I love Manchester United, I love the fans, and this will never change. However, I think it is time to look for a new challenge. I wish United all the best.”
