◤FIFA World Cup in Qatar◢ Breel Embolo scores against nation of birth as Switzerland defeat Cameroon 1-0..

Switzerland beats Cameroon 1-0 in the first round of Group G group stage in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the Al Janoub Stadium on Thursday.  

 

 

In the first half, Ekambi’s shot ended up going out of ther pitch. Afterwards, Choupo-Moting shot from a quick counter-attack was saved. By the end of the half, Akanji’s header went slightly wide of the post. In the second half, Embero scored. Then, Choupo-Moting’s shot was saved again. Next, Vargas’ shot was bravely saved by André Onana. Later, Embolo’s shot went high out of the pitch.

 

In the critical moment, Seferovic’s shot was blocked by Jean-Charles Castelletto just in time. In the end, Switzerland defended to the end and beat Cameroon 1-0.

 

First Half

 

In the 10th minute, Martin Hongla made a long pass from his own half, Brian Mbeumo successfully beaten the offside trap, quickly followed up, got the ball, dribbled into the left side of the box before volleying with his left foot, but his shot was initially parried not far away by Yann Sommer, after quickly following up and picked up the loose ball, Karl Toko Ekambi shot with his right foot in the center of the box, however his shot flew high out of the pitch.

 

4 minutes later, Cameroon played a quick counterattack. Nico Elvedi committed an error while making a clearance at the center circle of midfield, after quickly following up, stolen the ball and dribbled into the left side of the box, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting shot with his left foot, but his shot was bent over and collected by Sommer into latter’s arms.

 

In the first minute of stoppage time in the first half, Switzerland won a corner opportunity. Ruben Vargas took the corner and crossed it into the box, Manuel Akanji rose high in the center of the box and attempted with a header, however his effort just slightly wide of the right post.

 

At the end of the first half, Switzerland and Cameroon entered halftime having been goalless.

 

Second Half

 

Both teams switched sides as the game continued. In the 48th minute, Xherdan Shaqiri made a low cross from the edge of the byline on the right wing into the box, Breel Embrolo quickly followed up and pushed the ball into the lower center of the net with his right foot. Switzerland broke the deadlock and took a 1-0 lead! Out of respect for his nation of birth, Embolo did not celebrate the goal after scoring.

 

In the 57th minute, the ball was tackled off Mbeumo who was attacking at the right wing by Elvedi not far away, after quickly following up, got the ball, dribbled and cuts into edge of the byline on right side of the box, Choupo-Moting shot with his right foot, but his shot was blocked off for a corner by Yann Sommer who got down to the bottom right corner and stretched his legs.

 

In the 66th minute, Silvan Widmer cuts back a pass from the edge of the byline from the right wing, Ruben Vargas quickly followed up, and volleyed with his right foot from the center of the box upon receiving the pass, however his shot was parried out for a corner by André Onana who had to make an acrobatic save.

 

1 minute later, Switzerland got a corner opportunity. Shaqiri took the corner and crossed it into box, Embolo volleyed the ball with his right foot from a very close distance upon having contact with the ball, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.

 

In the 5th minute of stoppage time, Fabian Rieder headed pass the ball, Haris Seferovic beaten the offside trap, quickly followed up, got the ball dribbled into the center of the box then shot with his left foot, but his shot was blocked out for a corner in time by Jean-Charles Castelletto.

 

As the final whistle is blown, Switzerland beat Cameroon 1-0 and took all 3 points.
